How To be a Good Wife is the title of the book that was gifted to Marta by her husband’s mother when she got married. Marta and Hector has been married for around 25 years and their son Kylan has moved out of his parents’ home and is planning his own marriage.
Marta feels depressed after Kylan moves out. Later she narrates that she was always on medication ever since she can remember; depression which was triggered by her parents’ early death in a car accident.Lately Marta always manages to spit out the tablets without her husband’s knowledge. She knows she is taking a great risk, but she is tempted to continue even though she is experiencing hallucinations very frequently. Marta is torn between what looks real in her life and what could be real if she let the hallucinations control her…or are they really hallucinations or bits of her own memory?
A haunting literary debut about a woman who begins having visions that make her question everything she knows…
This is a difficult book to write your thoughts even though I just finished it today morning. I was totally intrigued and hooked to this book that I just wanted to know what is going to happen…Emma Chapman does scores a lot of points there.
Psychological Thriller – that is what we could call this book. This book makes you wonder till the end and then left you wondering after it is done…I am not sure if I like that inconclusive conclusion. I wish I could write more about what it is…but then I will spoil the whole fun.
I will recommend this highly to anyone who wants to read something different from usual. I think that is what Emma Chapman was trying to achieve, though I wish I could know more about what actually happened…or is it left to the reader to conclude? Maybe…anyway read it to find it yourselves..
